We at Chuck’s Firearms are sad to say good-bye to
Jack Crockford, a great man and a good friend.  His greatest
attribute was that he was the most courteous, helpful
person you could ever hope to meet.

Mr. Crockford grew up in Woodland, Michigan where
he developed a love of the outdoors.   During
World War II,   Mr. Crockford served in the Army Air
Corps as a “Hump” pilot and flew 423 combat missions.

In 1947, after earning his degree in wildlife biology from
Michigan State University, Mr. Crockford joined the
Georgia Game & Fish Commission.  During his 30-year
career with the Georgia Game and Fish Commission,
Mr. Crockford played an important role in Georgia’s
deer restoration efforts in the 1950s and 60s.  He
developed the “Cap-Chur  gun,” a tranquilizer dart gun that made it easier to capture and transplant deer and
other animals.  This gun is still used today.  From 1972 to 1978 Mr. Crockford served as director of the Georgia
Game and Fish Commission, now called the Wildlife Resources Division of the Department of Natural
Resources.

What you may not have known about Mr. Crockford is that he was also an engraver who made
flintlock rifles and knives.  We are fortunate enough to have some of his work here at the store.  We hope that
you will stop by and share your memories of this great man.
